Two Important Questions About Your Venue

With so many options available when it comes to where you want your wedding to be, we came up with two really important questions that should go along ways in helping you to decide where you want to hold your wedding. You and your partner should sit down and brainstorm about your wedding venue decision. Here are two very important questions that you need to consider during your discussion about your wedding venue; What number of guests are you comfortable with inviting? Do you plan to very hands-on or let someone else take care of the details?

Question #1 What is the number of guests are you comfortable with inviting?

You need to come up with at least a ballpark number of people that you want to be there for your wedding reception. You will have time to put together the full guest list as you go along, but you need to have a good working number so that you can put together a list of the venues that you will be considering. If you are planning on a large number of guests (150+) you will likely be limited to the types of venues that you will be able to choose from. For larger wedding parties you will probably need to look into a local hotel, as they are generally quite capable of handling everything. However, if you are looking for a much more intimate wedding with a much smaller number of guests (approximately 50).

you might consider holding it at a private residence or even a restaurant that offers to host wedding parties.

Question #2 Do you plan to very hands-on or let someone else take care of the details?

When it comes to selecting the best venue for your wedding you need to be very clear about whether you plan to be that person that has to needs to be in charge of every single aspect of the wedding planning. If not and you are willing to relinquish much of the decision making the process to someone else.

Either way, you need to decide ahead of time as it will be important to know this when you are making your decision on the type of venue you will ultimately end up with.  The five types of venues that we have included in this article will fit in either of the two categories; they take care of all of the decisions or you are left making all of the decisions for yourself.

Local Hotel Banquet Hall

If you are someone who follows tradition then this first option will be right up your alley. Many of today’s larger hotel chains offer a banquet hall rental that can be used for most occasions, which includes weddings, large or small. Once you have decided to go in this direction, you simply select a date and time for your wedding and they handle everything else for you.

Pros of choosing a Local Hotel Banquet Hall

Hotels generally have special wedding packages that offer really good pricing on many of the services that go into hosting a wedding and reception. These packages make it easy to fit into most any budget. They will normally have a person on staff that takes care of organizing all of the necessary arrangements. This is designed to help take the stress off the bride and groom on the big day. Trust is a very big deal and choosing a reputable hotel is very important to be sure everything goes as planned. Since the event is being held onsite, they can offer all of the necessary accommodations that are needed by everyone in the wedding party. Since they are handling all of the arrangements, they will be using all of the suppliers and vendors that they trust.

Cons of choosing a Local Hotel Banquet Hall

As you can imagine that there will be quite a bit of inflexibility when you are dealing with a hotel banquet hall. You will likely be severely limited on menu options, decor and other aspects of the look and feel of the venue. While packages can make it easy to budget, depending on the hotel, the packages can easily be rather expensive. They also can add additional charges for extra services. Unless the hotel has gone out of its way to work on the decor, most hotel banquet halls have a bad reputation for being relatively boring. The list of possible suppliers and vendors can be quite limited to keep their cost down, which might not be very appealing.

Exclusive Hire Wedding Venues are locations that are offered by a company that specializes in holding events like weddings in unique or exclusive locales. This type of venue generally gives you the most choices when it comes to where you can plan your special wedding day to be held. They have become more and more popular with couples today because of the level of privacy that they can provide. Most of the locations are extremely private luxury places.

Pros of selecting an Exclusive Hire Wedding Venues

This type of venue offers the most intimate setting for your wedding and your guest since you will be the only ones there. Many of the possible locations for you to choose from including exotic and luxury destinations. The wow factor of Exclusive Hire Wedding Venue can be quite appealing for you and your guests. Many of the locations being offered for hire are owner-operated and that allows for a much more personal relationship to be formed.

Cons of selecting an Exclusive Hire Wedding Venues

Unfortunately, since many of these venue locations are privately owned there is normally a limit to the number of guests that can be a part of the wedding. One of the biggest knocks on this type of wedding is that they can be rather expensive depending on your choice of the private venue. The Exclusive Hire Wedding Venues will require a wedding planner to be able to coordinate all of the specialized vendors and suppliers that will be needed to put on a wedding. There is also usually some amount of restricted access associated with a privately owned venue, this might be a deal-breaker for some people.

Marquee or In-home wedding

Having a wedding in a specially decorated marquee or inside a home can present some unique challenges. However, they are much more intimate and usually is more comfortable for smaller wedding parties. You will need to check to see if where you live allows weddings to be held in non-fixed structures as marquees are a temporary type of sheltering that usually in a backyard of a home or residence.

Pros of selecting a Marquee or In-home wedding

For obvious reasons, a marquee or in-home wedding would be much more intimate and very comforting for the whole wedding party. Having all of the control over the suppliers and vendors makes this an appealing option for many people. The only real restrictions that you will have to worry about is that you may have to keep the volume level down after a certain hour as not to disturb your neighbors. While it may not be as cheap as you may think, but there are usually places that you can find to save money.

Cons of selecting a Marquee or In-home wedding

Unlike a package deal associated with a hotel wedding, there could be hidden costs that you may be responsible for. Marquee and in-home weddings are fairly immune to poor weather, however, it could put a damper on the look and feel of the wedding if the weather outside is less than favorable. You will be forced to give up a little of your privacy as it can take a few days for some of the suppliers to set up different parts of the wedding at your home. There will be a lot more organizing and planning necessary that may require an extra person to help with some of the coordinating.

Local Restaurant, eatery or pub wedding venue

For the non-traditional couple, several different types of wedding venues may be right up their alley. Many local restaurants, eateries, and pubs offer private back rooms where they host small private parties for their patrons.  In your area there is likely a number of these places that would offer their facility for your wedding party, all you need to do is ask.

Pros of selecting a Local Restaurant, eatery or pub wedding venue

Food and spirits are the most obvious things that a restaurant and the local pub has to offer your wedding party. Starting with a favorite restaurant would be a great place to begin your search. A private back room provides the best possible atmosphere which is laid back and very intimate. The more ornate the decor of the room will make it much less likely that you would need to worry about making any changes. Since more and more restaurants are adding weddings to the services that they offer, you will likely get some additional perks if you choose this option.

Cons of selecting a Local Restaurant, eatery or pub wedding venue

No special accommodations are likely available to any of your guests. Location of the restaurant, pub or eatery can be a bit tricky for more rural areas. Many restaurants do not stay open late at night, which would put an early end to your wedding party. Limited amount of space will usually mean that there would not likely be a dance floor, which means you would have to alter some of the more traditional festivities. They’re not likely a place to hold the wedding ceremony which means you would need to make arrangements for a place to hold the actual wedding ceremony.

Do It Yourself Wedding

This final venue option is more of a recommendation for those couples who would much rather do things on their own. DIY weddings are not unique, but they can be a bit scary when it comes to figuring out where you want to have both the ceremony and the reception afterward. We hope that even if none of the other options talked about in this article do not fit in with what you and partner had in mind, realize that many of the same pros and cons are likely to still apply to most any other type of venues you can come up with.

In conclusion, all venues are different and even if you go with one of the options that we discussed in this article, you need to know that there will likely be some amount of variation to what we talked about in each section.
