Handfasting is a type of ceremony that is currently associated with Wiccan and Pagan ceremonies and it involves having the hands of the couple in the ceremony being tied together with a number of cords, The type of cords that are used is usually decided by the couple with help from the person officiating the ceremony.
The cords that are used to bind the hands and arms together are made of specific materials and the colors that are chosen all have a unique significance and they are agreed on between the couple and the person who is doing the officiating to ceremony.
The act of binding the arms together of the couple traditionally replaces the exchanging of the vows, however, there is no steadfast rule that requires it and really depends on how the couple getting married want to do at their own ceremony.

While traditional weddings still exist all over the world and are considered to be the normal way for a couple to make their union official in the public eye. The traditional ceremony with a man, a woman and the person doing the officiating with the exchange of vows making the union official. However, for many cultures and society as a whole more and couples are looking for ways to make their wedding unique.
This has given light to another type of unity ceremony called the Sand Ceremony or Unity Sand Ceremony to be more precise. The Sand Ceremony is extremely unique in that the sand and how it is structured makes all of the difference in the world. The Ceremony itself is filled with a number of different symbols.
The Sand Ceremony involves two unique colors of sand that are held inside two all glass containers. The bride and groom each pour the sand from their container into the third and larger container. By pouring the two color sand into the other container a unique looking pattern will be created and it provides the couple with a unique way to remember the ceremony by.
