Church Wedding

If you have decided on a full, traditional church style wedding ceremony you will need to first take into consideration you and your partners religions. If you are of the same religion than you will not likely have any extra concerns. However, if there are differences in your religions we will need to work out those concerns in the beginning to avoid any issues that might arise.

Civil Ceremony

Now, if you both are not looking for a traditional church ceremony for your wedding then you have several options that you will need to think about. The simplest be going down to registrar office and filling out the paperwork. However, with a civil ceremony you are free to select your preferred venue for you and your wedding party to have the ceremony on your special day.

You will need to keep in mind a couple of factors that you will need to worry about if your plans will include an outdoor ceremony, a possible destination style ceremony or even a themed ceremony at a specific location.

What kind of wedding reception are you wanting?

While the wedding ceremony is traditionally attended by family and very close friends, the reception party is generally much more festive and is where the majority of your guests will be. The location is also normally held in a separate location depending on the type of venue you have chosen for your wedding ceremony. Most churches do not offer space for a large reception, so you will likely have to have a secondary venue to hold the reception after the ceremony.

Planning the reception will ultimately come down to your decision on the number of people you want to attend and what vibe that you are wanting it. If you want just an intimate reception for the wedding party and a few select family and friends then you might consider a small cozy venue. However, if you want a larger, more fun type of vibe, then you might consider a large banquet hall. If you have chosen a destination style wedding your reception option will be dependant on what the availability of the resort. Whichever way you go  there are plenty of options for you to choose from.

What size of budget are you willing to spend on the wedding?

Deciding on how much money you can afford to spend before you get started is very important. With the average wedding cost in the tens of thousands you want to be sure that you are not over doing it based on your finances. Even if you plan to take out a loan to be able to pay for it, you need to be sure that you can fit the repayment of a sizable loan into your finances.

Once you have settled on a realistic budget, it is a very good idea to set aside a portion of the total in cash as a contingency fund. A good rule of thumb is 15%, but the actual number is completely up to you. Having this fund available just in case an emergency expenditure pops up you will not be left scrambling to afford it or possibly having to make a major change to your plans to be able to pay for it.

What time of year are you wanting to get married?

The next important decision you will need to make is when do you plan on getting married. The timing is extremely important depending on where you plan to have the wedding. If you are planning on a unique destination wedding or one that involves having an outdoor ceremony or reception, you need to be sure that you are considering the time of year.

However, if everything is going to be held indoors you will not likely be affected by the craziness of the recent weather conditions. If you are planning a outdoor ceremony and reception it would be wise to have a contingency plan that includes some amount of sheltering from the weather.

Final things to consider

After you have decided all of the most important details of your wedding there are some last remaining things for you to think and plan for. Some people have gone for a specific theme for the wedding which can present some degree of a challenge depending on the location or venue of the ceremony and reception.

You may also consider a certain style of wedding that will require a certain amount of additional planning that you will need to take into consideration that time of year and location of the venue could play a major factor. You also will need to decide if you want specific colors of the decorations and possibly unique room decor.

In the end, we are here to help you every step of the way to help keep you from becoming overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation. The less stressed you are the better you will feel when your big day come.
